July 29, 2015: Ash Grove Cement Company (property owner) is applying for an emergency exemption from Shoreline Substantial Development requirements for the repair of a bulk product retaining wall on their property along the Lower Duwamish Waterway (LDW). A portion of the retaining wall failed on March 16, 2015 and is in imminent need of repair to resume regular operations on the site.
Ash Grove contacted the City of Seattle (Seattle Public Utilities; Mark Benson) immediately following the wall failure to determine the necessary steps to rectify the issue. As such, Ash Grove is submitting this emergency exemption application to replace the failed section of retaining wall with a temporary Ecology/Kelly Block wall until a permanent structure can be designed, permitted, and constructed.
