3500 INTERLAKE AVE N
July 14, 2016: Seattle Public Utilities is proposing to construct an underground storage tunnel to reduce the amount of sewage and stormwater (combined sewage) that discharges to the Lake Washington Ship Canal. A component of the project is the East Shaft and associated facilities. The property currently serves as a parking lot and is secured by fencing on all sides; all structures/buildings were removed in 2015. The East Shaft will serve as the retrieval shaft for the tunnel boring machine and will house a below-grade drop structure and odor control. An above-grade 24' by 13'4" electrical building will be located on the eastern portion of the site. Retaining walls will be constructed along the north and east property lines and at the southwest corner of the property (maximum height is approximately 5 feet at the NE corner of the property. Following construction, landscaping will consist of: street trees along Interlake Ave N, hydroseeding of the northern portion of the site for flexibility of repurposing, buffer planting along the perimeter of the driveway and SPU facilities for screening, and a bioretention swale along the fence line adjacent to Interlake Ave N
