1101 ALASKAN WAY

Sept. 2, 2016: Address is between 1101 Alaskan Way and 1201 Alaskan Way.

Piers 55 & 56 LLC proposes to remove approximately 2,200 SF of the existing Pier 55.5's east apron and with it the demolition of (38) creosote treated timber piles and (10) steel stub pile repairs. The existing timber pier will be replaced with a pier consisting of (8) 20-inch-diameter vertical steel pipe piles, (4) 20-inch-diameter batter steel pipe piles, and (4) 24-inch-diameter vertical steel pipe piles supporting cast-in-place concrete pile caps with precast concrete deck panels. Additionally (2) 10-inch-diameter vertical steel pipe piles will be driven with a vibratory hammer at the north and south ends of the Pier 55.5 east apron underneath Piers 56 and 55, respectively. The new concrete deck will be precast concrete panels designed to the International Building Code (IBC) occupancy requirements of 100 psf live load and to accommodate an AASHTO H10 vehicle design criteria. The center bent of the proposed new pier, approximately a sixth of the overall square footage, will also be designed to accommodate a future 150-ton crawler crane which will support the Pier's long-term development plans of maintenance and replacement of Pier 55 and other portions of Pier 55.5.

There will be a reduction in the overall number of piles used in the proposed improvements to the existing pier. The overall footprint of the proposed pier will remain the same as the existing pier; therefore, no new overwater coverage would be created. Existing timber elements have deteriorated and the structure is in need of maintenance or replacement to increase public safety and to bring the pier to current building codes, as pier does not meet current seismic design codes. In addition, a majority of the east apron of Pier 55.5 is currently closed off from all access as it has been deemed a public safety hazard due to damage from the Elliot Bay Seawall Project and construction.

Canceled.
