Dec. 4, 2020:
Detailed Description of Proposed Bamboo Barrier
We have been battling and removing invasive bamboo from neighbor's yard at 6309 Evanston North for many years. We are now planning on installing a bamboo barrier. The following is a description:
1. Barrier will be set-back as appropriate from the existing concrete retaining wall.
2. Barrier will run approximately 6-feet West to East, ending within 6-inches of the property line between Schiller's 523 N 64th and Redfield's 519 N 64th. Specifically, this is on the front of the downhill side of the existing retaining wall dividing the two properties.
3. Barrier will run approximately 6-feet South to North along this same property line.
4. Barrier will have structure permitting further building up this N-S retaining wall mentioned in #2 above, along the East side of the barrier.
5. Tools: Reciprocating saw corded, with 12" long blade; hand tools, pick axe, shovels, pry bars, etc.
6. A swath 8-10 inches wide is cut to install the bamboo barrier. The barrier will be installed 18-inches below the surface (Note 1) with 6-inches of the barrier visible above ground for a total of 2-feet. It is understood that this is the normal installation.
Note (1): The reference, "surface" is at the same ground level as the Schiller's yard.
7. The bamboo barrier will be installed 18-inches below this surface. It will be placed on the Redfield's property. All sides of the barrier will be dug out to the same level. Both the North-South side and the East-West side will be dug out to the same level. Specifically, the existing "berm" on the Redfield's property will be dug out to the same depth right up to the edge of concrete retaining wall that separates Redfield's property from Scott's property.
8. The bamboo barrier, in the shape of a, "J," measures 6-feet by 6-feet with a North-South side and an East-West side.
9. There already exists a dig on Redfield's side of the adjoining corner properties about 3-feet deep where they have begun bamboo root system removal. This plan involves installing a bamboo barrier, back-filling all of the dirt we are removing with some added new topsoil.
10. Further the plan is to improve the landscaping of the yard by planting vegetation, shrubs or a tree that will beautify the area and provide room for gardening. We believe that the root systems of this vegetation, once installed, will provide further strengthening of the integrity of the landscaping in this area.
