March 11, 2023: The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is proposing to construct the Ballast Island Monument on the Elliott Bay shoreline. The monument will serve as a commemorative public marker regarding the history of Native Americans at Ballast Island. Visually, the monument will consist of a group of four stone columns standing between three and five feet high, and an interpretive sign.
