7318 4TH AVE S
July 28, 2024:
Boyer Towing wants to remove five (5) steel dolphins and associated supporting batter piles to replace them with five (5) 36-inch (King) monopiles. The new structures would consist of one (1) monopile in place of each dolphin: three (3) for the loading ramp and two (2) upriver of the dock, for a total of five (5) new piles.
No upland work is being proposed as part of this action.
The dolphins installed in the Lower Duwamish Waterway provide mooring points essential for Boyer Towing to conduct its daily business operations. The purpose of this proposed project is regular upkeep and maintenance of the property and its infrastructure. The structures are aging, and Boyer Towing wants to replace the dolphins before any disruptions to operations occur due to disrepair.
The site has been used as a barge terminal since the 1960s and continuous use of the berth is required to accommodate ocean-going tugs and barges for transshipment to Alaska ports via the terminal.
The removal operation may take up to 2 days, and the installation of new piles using a vibratory hammer would take 1 to 2 days.
Canceled.
