10 E ROANOKE ST

Aug. 23, 2026: Puget Sound Energy must replace a 2-inch diameter gas line and ancillary features that provide service from the shoreline of Lake Union to a community of houseboats. The existing STW LP line has corroded and is no longer safe due to ultraviolet (UV) light exposure that began when the homeowner's association (HOA) replaced the decking surface of the dock with grated panels. The existing line runs from shore, underneath a pile-supported parking structure, and down the length of the dock alongside other utilities that lay below the walking surface but above the water. Each customer ties into the distribution line with a 1-inch SS-Flex LP.

To perform the work, PSE will lift the grated deck panels and access the gas line from above. The existing line will be shifted from its current alignment to allow space for the replacement STW IP pipe to be installed. Segments of new pipe will be prepared on the street (upland) and then carried to the dock and installed by hand, connecting segments with a bolted gasket and wrap. Preparation involving welding, such as to install connection points at the appropriate intervals, and application of flame spray will occur in upland areas, outside of the OHWM whenever possible; however, for some segments, it may be necessary to conduct this type of work on the dock over the water. If at any time there is risk of construction materials, debris, or contaminants falling in the water, containment will be established. Containment will be provided by a low-profile floating raft positioned underneath the work area. All other appropriate BMPs for over-water construction will be applied to ensure water quality is maintained.
