5041 LAKE WASHINGTON BLVD S
Oct. 28, 2026: My family owns our deceased parents home which has a shoreline restriction for a Short Term Rental license. Under the city's law, we are able to rent the house on AirBnB and Furnished Finders for a minimum of 30 days. The 30 day rental income is not enough to sustain keeping the house, the property taxes for the three parcels the house is on, have increased to close to 40k a year. In order to keep our parents' legacy historic home in the family, we need the STR license to cover the house expenses. STR rentals in comparison to a 30 day rental is higher. We don't want to be forced to sell our family home of 75 years. Family members need another 3 years before being ready to purchase the house. In the meantime, please take a look at where the house sits, across the street from the Seattle Parks & Recreation land. The street, sidewalk, and an approximate 50 feet of a bank sits before the shoreline. The shoreline that needs protecting has stakes around the plants and trees so that the public doesn't walk through the protected area. Our renters are highly vetted through an application process, and without favorable reviews, are declined the requested use of the house. My niece is a Super Host and manages several AirBnBs, who oversees who gets to rent the home. The clientele for our 30 day rentals have been excellent. No one has gone across the street and sidewalk, down the embankment, and damaged any of the shoreline. We have outside cameras. Why there is a restriction for Short Term Rentals in the Shoreline code, I can only imagine the authors of the shoreline master plan were notified of a negligent short term renters where they violated Lake Washington. I don't think this applies to our case because the rental property is not on the water and the parkland is for public use. Thank you.
