March 28, 2018: Remove hazardous trees with laminated root rot. My family excitedly moved to Bridle Trails in 2016 in large part due to the beautiful trees. Originally from Alaska and Canada, it reminds my wife and I of our upbringings that we'd like our boys to experience (5 years old and 7 months old).

I share this, as we truly love and respect our neighborhood's unique characteristics and ecosystem, but the safety of our children needs to come first, which is why we're seeking a hazardous tree removal permit.

A few months ago while my wife and kids were in the kitchen on a not-super-windy evening, a healthy-looking 150 foot tree that stood 50 feet from our house came crashing down. Fortunately it fell to the side of our house, but you can imagine the event caught our attention. Since then we've discussed the matter with several people and eventually hired a certified arborist (Bruce MacCoy) to assess the situation. The arborist examined and confirmed the tree failed due to laminated root rot, which is a disease that often impacts surrounding trees. He's assessed the risk of the nearby trees and produced the attached report, which calls for the removal of 36 nearby trees. Several of these trees are on our neighbor's property - they have met our kids and told us to go ahead and get the permits and will visually review the proposal when they return to Washington State next week (snow birds).

The permit guy in city hall advised I submit this predevelopment services application as a next step.

April 24, 2018: Completed.
