June 26, 2019: Sunset Hills Memorial Expansion. The proposal to expand the cemetery includes clearing and filling a portion of the existing undeveloped Sunset Hills Memorial Park. The earthwork is proposed in an undeveloped portion of the cemetery property. Existing critical areas are present in portions of the site area to be graded. This includes steep slopes (potential erosion hazard), stream buffers and wetland buffers. The protection of the critical areas and a conceptual mitigation plan for work adjacent to and within the buffer areas is detailed in the enclosed critical areas report that has been prepared by biologists Talasaea Associates. To expand the grave sites, the existing lawns would be expanded at a gentle slope, which will require the import of approximately 370,000 CY of soil. This grading would occur in several phases, which would reduce the level of construction activity taking place in one period. The total area of the proposed grading is approximately 15 acres.
