April 12, 2021: Sunset Hills Memorial Park Expansion. Sunset Hills Memorial Park operates the cemetery on 36.2 acres of 59.3 acres of land. The cemetery proposes an expansion of 4.1 acres into the remaining 23.1 acres of undeveloped property. The property critical areas includes wetlands, streams, and steep slopes. The project proposal does not encroach into the wetlands, wetland buffers, or streams. There are selective permanent and temporary impacts proposed to the stream buffers and steep slopes. The Critical Areas Report provides a detailed evaluation of the critical areas. The accompanying Mitigation plan and supplemental documents address the proposed impacts, the process of avoidance and minimization, the proposed mitigation (including the revegetation of impacted stream buffers and steep slopes) as well as plans for removing invasive plant species and enhancing the critical areas. A permanent forest preserve of 19 acres is proposed as part of the project.
