Nov. 27, 2023: PSE Cable Crossing Emergency Repair 2023. leak has been identified in the submarine electricity cable crossing Lake Washington, from Enatai Beach Park in Bellevue to Mercer Island. The transmission line is buffered by an outer ring of pressurized mineral oil which is monitored to ensure cable integrity. After a decrease in pressure was observed, a diver investigation of the line was conducted and a leak in the cabling has been found approximately 150 feet offshore near the outer swim area of Enatai Park in Bellevue, beneath Lake Washington. While no oil sheen has yet been observed on the surface of Lake Washington, crews are mobilizing to fix the leak. The repairs are needed immediately to stop further leakage of mineral oil into Lake Washington and to maintain the integrity of the submarine cable. Water entering the outer ring could damage the system, rendering the buffer inadequate causing permanent damage to the entire system.
