March 20, 2024: I-90 / EB Mercer Slough Bridge XL6417. This project will replace existing bearings with new ones, modify the expansion joints, and replace the expansion joint seals at 13 in-span hinges on eastbound I-90 Mercer Slough Bridge 90/43S. The work will include installing suspended scaffolding, removing the restrainers currently installed at some joints, installing high-strength rods through the bridge deck, W-section support beam (bearing seat), transverse stops, jacking equipment to lift the bridge up, removing the existing bearing and installing new elastomeric bearings, transferring the girder load to the new bearings, and replacing the expansion joint seals.
Specifically for the City of Bellevue this project will occur along I-90 eastbound MP 9.27 to 9.68 along Bridge 90/43 S on Mercer Slough Bridge. Each joint will be done one at a time taking approximately 18 nights each moving in an Eastbound direction along I-90. WSDOT is expecting this work to take 234 non-consecutive and consecutive nights within the City of Bellevue.
This project will require construction equipment and personnel on the roadway. The work zone traffic control strategies have been developed for this project to minimize impacts to the traveling public during the construction phase of this project. This project has to be completed at night as this type of work is not feasible for daytime hours with the amount of traffic utilizing I-90 and the expected number of nights required. This project is considered a critical project.

June 27, 2024: Permits issued.
