June 17, 2025: Evergreen Transition Sensory Garden. The Evergreen Transition Program located at 1898 152nd Ave NE serves students between 18 and 22 years old with a variety of unique needs. The program includes vocational training and physical, mental, and sensory supports while students finish graduation requirements and transition to college or independent living as adults. The proposed Sensory Garden will serve students, staff, and visitors as a private leisure and open space supporting educational and therapeutic uses. Neighbors from the Silver Glen Senior Cooperative have expressed interest in volunteering in support of the garden and school. The garden will be private use only to ensure safety and a calm environment to best serve student needs. The proposed location for the garden is ideal because of the immediate adjacency of the site to existing doors and pathways at the south side of the school. This site also rests at the end of a quiet, low traffic street that dead ends at the Silver Glen property. Visitor access will be controlled through the school front office with vehicular access controlled by a gate limiting parking to program vehicles and event use. The project proposes to maintain the existing mature trees to enhance the character of the garden, weaving program functions and spaces into the semi-open structure of the wooded lots to create a pleasing organic context.
