July 3, 2025: East Link Light Rail Extension Tree Removal. The East Link Light Rail Extension is a 14-mile-long rail extension that includes at-grade, elevated, and underground rail, along with 10 stations. Sound Transit is proposing tree removal, tree snagging, and pruning of trees along the East Link light rail guideway and OMFE within the City of Bellevue. Of the 148 trees marked for action, 102 trees are marked as being within a wetland, wetland buffer, or stream buffer. Tree removal consists of removing the tree at soil level, followed by a cut-stump herbicide application to prevent resprouting. Trees converted into wildlife snags will have the top of the tree removed to a height that reduces risk to the ST infrastructure. Branches that overhang the track or may allow wildlife access to the platform will be pruned, with cuts being made at the trunk of the tree.
