Aug. 29, 2025: CoB Somerset Highlands Fire Flow Improvements. This project proposes to correct the fire flow deficiency by creating a new pressure zone (SS1025) of higher flow for the Somerset Highlands neighborhood experiencing deficient fire flows. This will be achieved by connecting to the existing HV1175 zone at SE 49th St and 151st Ave SE with a new 12in water line, extending west to Highland Dr approximately 2,800 LF. The new 12in water line will pass through a pressure reducing valve (PRV) assembly at the intersection of Highland Dr and SE 49th St, to reduce the pressure from the HV1175 zone pressures to the targeted pressure for the new SS1025 pressure zone. The new 12in water line then branches to two new parallel 8in water lines traveling north on Highland Dr from SE 49th St to SE 47th Pl (525 LF each) with one 8in line dedicated to the new SS1025 zone and the other line connecting back to the existing SS1000 pressure zone. All ACP water lines within the intersection of Highland Dr and SE 47th Pl will be abandoned and replaced to the approx. limits of the curb returns of the intersection. The PRV station at Highland Dr and SE 49th St will contain a sump pump to dewater any stormwater or potable water spills. This sump pump will discharge the water to the nearby storm sewer system. The new zone will provide excess pressure at some service connections. Approx. 100 individual pressure reducing valves (IPRVs) will be provided at private properties where pressure must be reduced before entering the private properties.
