March 18, 2026: Bellefield - Access & Recreation Improvements. The preliminary concept would include a minor re-grade of the shoreline with added gravel surface, or other material depending on the future recommendations of a geotechnical engineer, to create a gradual sloped access to the water for stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes. The current edge of Mercer Slough at this location is near-vertical and vegetated with reed canarygrass and other herbaceous species, which makes physical slough access difficult. To support the water-dependent boating use, a small boathouse structure is proposed just landward of the 50-foot setback. The kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, life jackets, and other equipment would be stored in the boathouse. The potential improvements also include pin pile-supported boardwalks in place of gravel trails and some additional gathering areas for river viewing and enjoyment. Vegetation conditions would be improved to enhance habitat and the bocce ball court and some parking area would be eliminated.
